3 Lessons Learned On A Stripping Pole That Will Improve Your Business!

This past weekend I was feeling feisty and I decided to take a pole dancing/striptease class. After class not only did I feel like a “stripper superstar” but it was one hell of an empowering workout (who would have thought).  For those of you who have not worked a pole it’s a lot harder than it looks. I totally have a new found respect for strippers! As I was learning the different kinds of dance & pole techniques I realized 3 very important lessons that can be applied not only to life but to building any type of successful business. So are you ready to apply some “pole lessons” to your business?

Pole Lesson #1 – Let Go. As I prepared to try my first pole technique I was scared but excited! The first couple of times I tried to swing around the pole it was an absolute disaster, for some reason I was not able to swing all the way around the pole and I was getting pretty frustrated. One of the girls that was watching me said it looks like your body is all tense and that you are not allowing yourself to let go. When she said that to me a huge light bulb went off in my head!  Wow she was exactly right, I thought to myself where else in my life am I not letting go? As entrepreneurs it is in our nature to constantly be making decisions, preparing for things to happen and controlling a specific aspect in our business in order to grow to the next level. While making decisions, having control and preparing for things to happen can be very beneficial in growing a business it is not always a beneficial trait. When we loosen up a little bit, ease our control tendencies and let go we allow the Universe to step in and do her thing so that our wants, needs and desires can consistently, effortlessly and easily flow into our businesses. As I got up to try my last pole technique I decided I was going to let go and guess what my swing around the pole was absolutely perfect!

Pole Lesson #2- Embody Your Feminine. Along with the pole techniques that the class learned we also learned some really sexy dance moves. As I was learning the dance moves I was more concerned about perfecting the moves and learning them as quickly as I could instead of really embodying the moves. My masculine energy was totally present in this situation.  I realized that I also tend to build my business this way with a lot of perfectionism and a very dominate masculine energy. Most entrepreneurs & business owners tend to lead with this masculine type of energy in order to get things done and make things happen, especially if you are coming from Corporate America, this masculine energy is associated with action, control, logic, movement, power, aggressiveness, and strength. Possessing this energy is great if you are equally tapping into your feminine energy. Our feminine energy is associated with inner strength, softness, knowingness, intuition, creativity and nurturing.  There needs to be a balance between both energies in business. Some women possess way more feminine energy by nurturing and helping everyone else’s business first while putting their own businesses last. After class, I realized my business needed to be infused with way more feminine energy since it has been running on pure masculine energy.

Pole Lesson #3- Slow Down (Live In The Present Moment). In a striptease or pole dancing class I learned that there is no such thing as moving fast. Every movement & technique is performed slowly, with intention and wrapped with complete focus in the present moment. In class I found myself doing the exact opposite. While I got the movements down very quickly I was 5 steps ahead of the whole class and I realized that I was moving entirely too fast while focusing on the end routine. I looked like a stripper in training who just drank some red bull. I quickly caught on to the fact that I needed to slow down ASAP and focus on being in the present moment. As entrepreneurs and business owners it is our job to quickly make decisions and to take action even quicker. Sometimes our mind fills up with so many juicy ideas and thoughts it can be difficult to stay in the present moment, but this can literally make or break your business. I recognized that in some areas of my business I need to slow down and really “be” in the present moment. Where in your business do you need to slow down and be present?

I highly recommend pole dancing and striptease classes for business owners! You never know what type of ah-ha moments you might have.
