I am so excited to share this next interview with you! If you are thinking about becoming an entrepreneur or are currently an entrepreneur you will want to learn about this next Entrepreneuress! Let me introduce you to the fabulous Melanie Duncan!!!
Melanie Duncan lives in Manhattan and is a serial entrepreneuress. Her businesses have been featured on ABC’s Good Morning America, NBC’s the Nate Berkus Show, in New York Magazine, Adore Magazine and on the top design and lifestyle blogs. She started her first e-commerce apparel business in college www.CustomGreekThreads.com and also runs www.LuxuryMonograms.com, a personalized home decor and gift site. Melanie now focuses on teaching other women how to to start and grow online businesses through her membership site http://www.entrepreneuressacademy.com/
Q: What motivated you to start The Entrepreneuress Academy?
Melanie: I was motivated to start the Entrepreneuress Academy because I have a strong and successful background in online business that I knew could help a lot of women.
Q: What was your biggest business obstacle to date and how did you overcome it?
Melanie: The biggest business obstacle that I ever had to face was dealing with the budget and timeline issues of creating a completely custom website. I overcame it by properly managing a team of programmers and not taking “no” for an answer.
Q: What is one piece of advice for women/girls out there who have a dream but are either scared to pursue it or feel stuck because they are afraid of failure and never really being successful?
Melanie: I would tell them that the only real failure is failing to try. You will be as successful as you have the confidence to demand. No one is holding you back besides yourself. Get out there and live your life!
Q: How do you stay true to yourself while pursuing your dreams?
Melanie: I think that the only way to stay true to yourself is to pursue your dreams. One of my favorite quotes is “Be who God meant you to be and set the world on fire” – St. Catherine of Siena. No excuses and dream big!
Q: Who or what motivates and inspires you?
Melanie: I am very inspired by Ivanka Trump. I think that she is the perfect example of the modern entrepreneuress. She is intelligent, successful, and stylish. I admire her motivation, skill and ability to balance her career and her family.
But I have to say, I am most inspired and motivated by my members. I am so humbled by being able to assist and teach them. And I am so floored when I see them succeed.
Q: What was the best piece of advice that you were ever given?
Melanie: Don’t take “no” for answer. Some of the most important opportunities in my businesses were created by finding solutions to problems that everyone else said were impossible.
Q: How do you deal with negative (non-supportive) people who do not believe in you or your dream?
Melanie: I avoid them at all costs. I am a big believer that you are a combination of the people that you surround yourself with. Life is too short to be around people who don’t love you and build you up.
Q:What is your advice for entrepreneurs out there who want to take their business to the next level?
Melanie: Don’t be afraid to invest in your business. Taking courses, hiring a mentor, and attending conferences usually cost money but they are the best way to take your business to the next level. People who believe in their potential for success are not afraid to spend money to get there.
Q: What are your plans/visions for the future of The Entrepreneuress Academy?
Melanie: The Entrepreneuress Academy is going to become one of the leading sources for online entrepreneurial education for women looking to start or grow ecommerce businesses. The scope of our courses is ever expanding, and as we bring on more specialized contributors I believe we will be able to serve the needs of women in various stages of business.
